Grabbing attention and and seeking out talent,
Saul wears the match-maker’s shawl.
Finding my husband, he chooses a shepherd,
Upon the rock of Goliath’s fall.
In seeking our futures, I ask – and what else?
Oh Jonno, dear brother, what has he found you?
Do you get a say in who you will bed?
Seek papa a shepherdess, or a shepherd, too?
Now my future hangs on a thread of silk.
I was birthed to become a Queen in some foreign land.
But here, would we bring lambs into the Royal hall?
Will we gather lyres into some chamber band?
(1 and 2 Samuel – Princess Merab was Saul eldest daughter, sister to Jonathon and Mical. She was originally promised to David in an arranged marriage after he killed Goliath.)
